| My cousin Carla, who's swiss, decided to pop by singapore for two weeks to check in with the extended fam. I haven't seen her in ages; seven years to be exact. the last time she was here, it was for a honeymoon. this time, it's recuperation. she got divorced, quit her job, and now she's out here, halfway on a 6 month journey sightseeing the world. what makes it so worthwhile for her is that she's happy. and how many of us can truly say that. we talked; she told me about her travelling plans -vietnam, thailand, singapore, malaysia, brisbane, darwin, orlando, san fransisco, los angeles. she told me that I should try it sometime, when I get the chance. I told her that it's not possible. Here we are, in this little metropolitan box fueled by asian cultures and that hint of striving for success. Here we are, daring not to do anything non-conventional, for fear of how the people around us would brand us. Here we are, working and working and working - the plans to be a big shot in an industry...banker, lawyer blah blah blah.. but I think most of us don't know what we're working towards. stop and smell the roses. |
